Our Staff

Mr. Abb Dickson was truly “born into the business” in 1948 and has been serving the needs of the community ever since. Mr. Dickson attended the University of Georgia in 1967 and became a Licensed Funeral Director in 1971. Working alongside his father, He took over as President of Pope Dickson & Son upon his father’s retirement in 1992. Mr. Dickson earned the title “Certified Funeral Service Practitioner” in 2004. He is a member of the NFDA, NFDMA, Jonesboro Historical Society , the Jonesboro Planning Commission & many other community service projects. With the exception Truett Cathy, Mr. Dickson probably has raised more money for Clayton County charities than any other Clayton County businessman. Ed Wise,  Originally from Chesapeake, VA, began his career in funeral service in 1980. He joined the staff of Pope Dickson & Son in 1987. He is a long time resident of Jonesboro, GA. Ed is active in many community service projects.  He enjoys time with his family & offshore sport fishing.

Baxter Bedell, Originally from Augusta, GA began his career in funeral service in  1983 and joined the staff of Pope Dickson & son in 1993. Graduating Gupton Jones College in 1985, Baxter resides in Stockbridge, GA. He enjoys time with his grandkids, woodworking & military model building.

Jerry Guy, Originally from Birmingham, AL, He moved to Atlanta in 1991 and Joined the staff at Pope Dickson & Son as Pre Need Director in 2002. Graduating Gupton Jones College in 1992, Jerry resides in Stockbridge with his family. Active in many community service projects, Jerry enjoys fishing, boating  ant quality time with his family. jerryguy@popedickson.com

Jeff Tatum was born and raised in Jonesboro. Jeff joined the staff at Pope Dickson & Son in August of 2004 as an apprentice Funeral Director. He an accomplished flute player and plays in several area bands. jefftatum@popedickson.com

Tom Shannon, Originally from Bainbridge, GA, is an ordained minister with over 40 years of ministerial experience. He holds the Bachelor’s  & Master’s degrees in Religious Education and is currently working towards his Doctorate. A published poet & author, Tom brings to us over 12 years of experience in Funeral Service. Currently residing in Jonesboro, GA, Tom is the father of three and grandfather of four. He enjoys writing, cooking, photography, woodworking and Southern Gospel Music.

Mary E. King, Originally from Fayetteville, GA, is a former police officer and is multilingual, fluent in Spanish, able to read and write in Tagalog with general conversational skills in Mandarin. She is continuing her degree in in Psychology and will obtain her PSY.D and work in Neuropsychology. Mary aspires to open a family owned funeral establishment in Portland, Maine in 2018 and is very passionate in ensuring the upmost quality of care to all that are faced with the loss of a loved one during the most difficult times in their lives.
